American sterling silver large goblet made by Grosjean and Woodward for Tiffany and Company, c.1853. This ornate goblet has high relief Repousse floral and foliate decorations on the gilded interior body surrounding a large, scroll bordered cartouche containing the inscription: Emily Ward Johnston from Her Mother. The applied beaded rim just adds to the appeal of this special goblet. The base has conforming decorations and an unusual convoluted reeded rim, with the stem having a beaded collar. Weighing 244 grams or 7.85 ozs. Troy, this desirable goblet is 7 3/4" tall and 3 1/4" in diameter. Inscribed as described above, the soft, warm, original finish is present, with no buffing or machine polishing. The excellent original condition and clear detail, with no removals, repairs or alterations, make this an especially attractive offering.
